AUSTIN — International Migratory Bird Day is Saturday, and Sinnemahoning State Park will be holding programs to celebrate birds.
A Spring morning pontoon tour will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Day Use Area. Treat yourself to a relaxing morning aboard the pontoon boat in search of mergansers, herons, eagles and other wildlife. No fee. Catered meal will not be served; bring your own coffee and snacks. Limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required.
An eagle nest watch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Wildlife Viewing Area. The baby eagles at the Berge Run nest are now almost as big as their parents. Volunteers will be available to answer questions about the bald eagles of Sinnemahoning State Park and assist with locating and viewing the nest.
Then take a Spring Migration Bird Walk, Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Discover spring migrants and other birds of northcentral Pennsylvania during this trail walk to explore birding habitats and hotspots in the park. All levels of birding experience are welcome. Meet in Wildlife Center classroom.
Finally, on Sunday, join park staff from 1 to 3 p.m. for “Spring is for Bluebirds.” The bluebirds have returned and are raising their young in boxes and natural cavities in the park. The presentation will be held at the Wildlife Center classroom to learn more about eastern bluebirds and how to attract them to your yard with this illustrated presentation.
