Bradford resident Ken Seagren was promoted in April to area team leader at American Refining Group Inc.
Seagren has been with ARG since March 2002 when he was hired as an entry-level laborer assigned to the MEK Unit. He advanced to second assistant operator in November 2003 and to first assistant operator in September 2007. In October 2010 he was promoted to operator, the post in which he worked until being named the temporary unit specialist in June 2016.
Seagren is now responsible for planning, organizing and overseeing unit operation and maintenance, daily duties, unit manpower, all turnaround work and weekly safety meetings. ARG’s team leaders also oversee and control the unit’s inventory and budget, conduct equipment safety checks, review and document employee performance and write new operating procedures as needed. The role requires a thorough understanding of refinery operations as well as its quality-management and process-safety-management systems.
Seagren is a military veteran, having served from 1987 to 1991 in the United States Air Force and 1994 to 1998 in the U.S. National Guard. He studied forestry at West Virginia University and mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh.
