ST. MARYS — The Lady Owls were shutout 17-0 and 21-0 to drop both ends of their twin-bill on Tuesday.
Bradford (0-12) was no-hit in the three-inning first game by St. Marys (3-6) pitcher Maura Fiedderman. The Owls also committed eight errors in that game, leading to 14 unearned St. Marys runs off of Bradford pitcher Adrienne Angell.
St. Marys had 20 RBI and 22 hits as the Dutch bats really got going in the second game. Sydney Eckert had a game-high four hits and five RBI. Brittany Shaw added a home run as part of her four-hit, three-RBI day.
Brianna Grotzinger struck out 14 Bradford hitters in the second game.
The Owls travel to Brookville on Thursday.
Smethport 9, Coudersport 7
SMETHPORT — After getting handed their first loss of the season by Coudersport on Monday, the Lady Hubbers enacted their revenge with a hard-fought, comeback win on Tuesday.
Emily Treat pitched for the second consecutive game for Smethport (8-1), striking out eight batters while giving up eight hits and six walks. She did most of her damage at the plate, however, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.
Joplin Osgood had two doubles for Coudersport (6-3), and Rosalyn Page added three base hits.
Smethport fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first, but quickly struck back with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Coudy fell behind but scored four runs in the fourth to tie the game at 7-7. Smethport finally broke free with two runs in the sixth inning which proved to be the difference.
“Two evenly matched teams played two tight games over two days,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson said. “It was really good softball.”
