ST. MARYS — On the best weather day of the track season so far — though that’s not saying much — the Bradford boys swept Elk County Catholic and DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday. The Owls topped ECC 97-52 and DCC 119-31.
“The good weather brought out our best times today,” Owls coach Tom Tessena said.
Nate Blauser, Jaron Ambrose and Matthew Stafford were all triple winners for the Owls.
Ambrose won the high jump (5-8), the 300 hurdles (40.9), and ran on the winning 400 relay team with Jake Pattison, Stafford, and Donny Pattison in a season-best time of 44.6
In addition to his relay win, Stafford also won the 110 hurdles (15.3) and the 200 (22.7); both times were career bests.
Blauser, meanwhile, won the triple jump over ECC (39-10) and ran strong legs in the 1600 and 3200 relays. The 1600 relay team of Blauser, Derek Sunafrank, Tyler Kraft, and Mike Bosworth ran their best time of the year (3:34.7).
“Mike Bosworth completed a double win by taking the 400 in 53.6 and thrilled the Bradford fans by coming from behind to take first in that relay,” Tessena said.
The 3200 team of Tyler Kraft, David Allen, Cade Hayden, and Blauser ran their best time of 8:42.8.
“This also came down to the final leg with Blauser holding off Elk County,” Tessena said. “Kraft also placed second against Elk and DCC to go along with his two winning relay legs.”
In the field, John Eakin won the shot put and the discus against both schools while Logan Caruso won the 3200 against both and was second in the 1600.
Steve Kellam won the pole vault with a jump of 12-0. Steve Knowlton had a personal best in the long jump (17-9.5) for second place.
Gavin McGee had personal bests in the high jump (5-4) and the triple jump (34-10), finishing second in both.
Derek Sunafrank had a personal best in the javelin (122-4). Ryan Whittemore (120-4) and Josh Mackey (106-3) had personal bests in the discus.
Whittemore also had a first against DDC in the javelin and a second against Elk.
Jake Pattison had a personal best in the 400 (56.6).
“This was definitely a meet outcome we can build on as we get ready for Districts,” Tessena said. “The guys all showed quite a bit of spirit today and we will need that going forward.”
