An abandoned Walker Place property in Bradford City has been released for a private business enterprise.
Bradford City Council held a brief meeting Monday afternoon to attend to one matter of business: to vacate use of Walker Place. Walker Place is a street that once ran between West Corydon and Chautauqua Place.
The three councilman unanimously passed the legislation for the city to vacate the 0.08-acre land. Monday was the second of two readings, the first of which was made April 24.
City Councilman Brad Mangel explained after the brief meeting that the street was abandoned in 1914. It is to be the site of a Dunkin Donuts restaurant.
In 2015, John Kohler purchased several lots in that area and demolished the blighted structures that stood there, including the Terminal Building. He brought on board developer Manish Patel, CEO of Bapa Network LLC, to assist.
The total area of land Kohler bought in that spot is 1.17 acres.
They plan to build a two-story structure with three or four commercial tenants on the first floor, including Dunkin Donuts, and six apartments on the second floor. Dunkin Donuts has a projected opening date of summer 2019.
The next regularly scheduled city council meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 8.
