BOLIVAR, N.Y. — The Bolivar-Richburg baseball team experienced both sides of a seventh-inning rally in its tournament Saturday.
First, the good: In a first-round game resumed in the top of the seventh inning after lightning suspended it Friday, the Wolverines fell behind on Collin Strade’s RBI single for Allegany-Limestone. No matter, B-R answered with two outs in the bottom of the frame as Gavin Clemens singled to tie the game and, two batters later, Logan Bess won it with an RBI single to left.
The 5-4 walk-off win gave the Wolverines their sixth straight victory and sent them to the afternoon’s championship game, where another triumph was within reach. Until hard-hitting Oswayo Valley exploded.
Trailing 5-2, the Green Wave went for eight runs in the top of the seventh to earn a stunning 10-5 victory and win the B-R Tournament for the third straight year.
The Wolverines (6-4) saw their streak snapped, while Oswayo Valley (9-1) won its ninth consecutive game since an opening loss to Coudersport.
“They just hit line drives,” B-R coach Dustin Allen said of the Green Wave’s seventh inning. “We made a couple mental mistakes, but they came out swinging. They were down and aggressive and just put the ball where we couldn’t get to it.”
He added, “All the way up and down their lineup, they swing the bats well. We swung well this weekend, too. These couple days we’ve been swinging some of the best bats we’ve had this year. Hopefully we can continue that.”
Garren Black went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead OV. Ryan Graves (triple, two RBIs), Jacob Karr (two RBIs) and Gavin Babcock (RBI) tallied two hits apiece.
B-R’s Parker Cole was 3-for-4 with a double, Riley McDonald and Micah Crump had two hits, and Clemens added an RBI triple.
Against Allegany-Limestone, Cole and Clemens (double) collected two hits each. Logan Klice and Strade were 2-for-4 for the Gators.

“Shaffer had a dominant performance on the mound,” CC coach James Cooney said. “I’m glad we were able to string some runs together to get him the lead and get him the victory.”
