A Kane man is facing allegations that he stopped a 13-year-old to hug and kiss her.
Carl A. Wilson Jr., 65, of 315 Tionesta Ave., was arraigned Thursday before District Judge David Engman on charges of stalking and corruption of minors, both first-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary charge.
According to the criminal complaint, at 6:55 a.m. March 19, in Mount Jewett, Wilson approached a 13-year old girl “because she seemed happy,” court records stated. He allegedly grabbed her around the waist, hugged her and kissed her on the lips.
The Kane Republican reported that Wilson was employed as a Kane school van driver at the time of the alleged incident but no longer has that position.
In a subsequent interview with police, Wilson said he was standing outside his van waiting to pick up the girl’s brother for school, when he saw the girl, whom he described as “smiling and bubbly.” He asked the girl “if he could have some of that bubbly,” records stated.
It was then that he allegedly grabbed her to hug her. “Their faces met, and then their lips touched,” court records said. He allegedly pushed the girl back, said he was sorry and went to pick up her brother.
The girl told police she became scared when Wilson hugged and kissed her and walked quickly to her bus stop; “When she was asked what she was scared of, she answered that she feared Wilson may try something else, like kidnap her,” the criminal complaint stated.
The girl took a different route home after school because she was afraid.
Wilson was released on $10,000 unsecured bail, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7.
