Where can one learn safety for things like water, fire, hunting and wildlife, get their face painted, study self-defense and meet Bigfoot all in one setting?
Safety Awareness Day, planned May 12 at Elk County Catholic High School, is a family-friendly, countywide event hosted by Life and Independence for Today for children and adults to gain knowledge about being safe during emergencies, activities and other situations.
The free event will take kick off at 11 a.m.
Safety demonstrations will include fire, water, hunting, animal, gun safety, emergency preparedness, stranger danger and more. In addition, J.M. Williamson will put on an American Karate Self-Defense and Awareness clinic at 12:30 p.m.
A variety of local agencies will also promote safety programs with information and activities for children. Face painting will be available along with appearances from Sparky the Fire Dog, Bubbles the Clown who will make balloon animals, and Bigfoot who will be available for photos. Food and beverages will also be available throughout the day.
Safety Awareness Day will enable LIFT to promote Project Lifesaver – Elk County to the community where equipment and videos will be displayed and questions about enrolling a loved one in the program will be answered.
The event is made possible through funding from the St Marys United Way and Elk County community foundations Women Who Care and RIdgway Charitable Trust Fund.
