Sunshine greeted the 21 volunteers who came out Saturday for the annual Downtown Bradford Spring Cleanup.
Among the groups that volunteered were Pennsylvania Partners Inc., Cub Scout Pack 412 and the Russells Rovers, said Chelsea Schwab, Bradford’s Main Street manager.
“Cub Scout Pack 412 brought 12 volunteers and won the $100 for the largest group,” she said.
The volunteers were quite busy picking up trash, according to Schwab, who said, “30 garbage bags were filled with litter from the downtown area.”
Spring weather returned just in time for the crew.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, temperatures had hit the 40s by the time the volunteers were gathering, and they reached the 50s that afternoon.
“The weather was perfect for the cleanup,” noted Schwab. “Volunteers got to enjoy the sunshine while doing good for their community. In addition to litter pick up, volunteers also swept and weeded areas of Veterans Square.”
Bradford City firefighters helped clean the downtown area, too, according to Schwab.
“The City of Bradford Fire Department hosed down the sidewalks, which is always such a tremendous help in getting Main Street ready for the summer season,” she said.
Supplies such as gloves, safety vests and garbage bags were provided to the crew.
The following people volunteered to help on Saturday: Renee Petros, Dean Petros, Amy Storer, Sean Storer, Cameron Anderson, James May, TJ Tinsley, Vicki Tinsley, Becky Russell, Mike Russell, Jason Skaggs, Kayson Skaggs, Keion Skaggs, Kendon Skaggs, Kalob Skaggs, David Storer, Claire Storer, Rhett Kennedy, Kara Kennedy and Ward Kennedy.
