A six-run first-inning against Bradford on Friday propelled Johnsonburg to its third consecutive victory by at least 10 runs, as the Lady Rams topped the Owls 17-1 in five innings.
The Ramettes (3-1) had four girls with at least two RBI, including a two-run home run from Alyssa Kasmierski as part of an eight-run fourth inning.
“Unfortunately, we had a few errors in key moments and Johnsonburg was able to capitalize on those,” Bradford head coach Jennifer Snow said.
Johnsonburg scored seven unearned run off of five Bradford errors, and also drew eight walks off Owl pitcher Makenzee Maley.
“I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to (Maley) for stepping up on the mound tonight,” Snow said. “I was happy to see the fight she put up after not pitching for awhile.”
Maria Jones hurled a gem on the mound for the Ramettes, allowing only three hits and one earned runs over five innings.
The Owls (0-3) lost to Johnsonburg 10-0 last Friday, but scored their first run of the season in this matchup.
“We scored in the first inning and I was so excited to see that,” Snow said. “ We need to keep the same intensity and focus throughout the whole game but we were definitely more aggressive at bat and on defense. We are improving each game.”
Bradford travels to Smethport today to take on the Hubbers.
Coudersport 11, Galeton 1, 5 innings
COUDERSPORT — The Lady Falcons put Galeton away on Friday with a six-run fifth inning to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Madison Smith allowed just two hits and three walks on the mound for Coudersport while striking out 10.
At the plate, Joplin Osgood (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Shaelyn Black (double, RBI), and Emma Powell (double, RBI) all had good games for the Lady Falcons.
“It was windy and cold, but I thought our girls stepped up and played pretty well,” Coudy coach Dan Counts said. “We only had one error defensively. We had to shift the lineup a little bit and we produced pretty well. We didn’t leave too many people on base and we were more patient at the plate.”
Galeton’s Makaya Shadle struck out nine while allowing eight hits and six walks. Haylee Ludington notched an RBI single for the Tigers’ only run of the game.
Coudersport will visit DuBois Central Catholic on Monday.
DuBois CC 12, Cameron County 1, 5 innings
EMPORIUM — The Lady Cardinals scored in all five innings en route to a big road win over Cameron County (3-2) on Friday to improve to 8-0 on the season.
DCC got a number of big performances at the plate, headlined by a pair of home runs by Chelsea Busatto, as well as Ashley Wruble and Mia Meholic, who both notched three doubles apiece. Shayleigh Gulvas added two doubles of her own.
On the mound, Wruble struck out seven while yielding three hits and one walk.
Cameron County’s Laila Smith struck out four and walked one on the mound. Allyson Narby was responsible for the Red Raiders’ only run.
Smethport 8, Oswayo Valley 4
SHINGLEHOUSE — An early home run by Abbey Woodard sparked the Lady Hubbers to a key road victory on Friday to send Smethport to 3-0 on the season.
Woodard knocked a two-run home run in the second inning to help Smethport grab an early 4-0 lead.
“That was kind of the spark plug for us today,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson said.
Emily Treat got the win on the mound, striking out seven and allowing four hits and two walks.
Karina West went 2-for-4 for OV (0-4) at the plate, while striking out 10 and yielding three hits and seven walks on the mound.
“Everyone was cold, but both pitchers pitched well,” Peterson said. “Besides the walks West pitched a good game, but those walks killed her.”
Smethport will host Bradford this afternoon.
