• The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will hold a celebration of Earth and Arbor days from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. The event will begin with sustainability activities sponsored by the Environmental Studies Club, including making pet rocks, bird ID contest, tree ID contest, speed recycling, 2-liter bottle bowling, making “green” laundry soap and presentations from the energy science and technology program. A tree planting is also planned, weather permitting.
• Saturday will be the Downtown Bradford Spring Cleanup, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Safety vests, gloves and trash bags will be provided as volunteers work to get the downtown looking good for the coming warm months and increased foot traffic.
• Kinzua Bridge State Park is hosting a volunteer clean-up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Interested helpers should meet at the visitor center.
• Allegany State Park will hold its third annual combined Arbor and Earth Day celebrations Saturday with numerous scheduled activities. Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting in the Red House Administration Building lobby. • From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bendigo State Park, visitors can bring an empty plastic milk carton and recycle them into something to help birds and save money at the same time. This activity will be held at Pavilion 1. Then, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, visitors who meet in front of the park office can pick up litter and help remove dead branches to beautify the park.
• The McKean County Historical Society and Potato Creek Trail Association are sponsoring an Earth Day Walk to the Poor Farm Cemetery at 1 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine. Those participating will meet at the Shawmut Trail Head, on U.S. Route 6 west, before crossing the Bucktail Bridge, Smethport. The group will walk to the Poor Farm Cemetery.
