The Bradford boys tennis team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of St. Marys on Wednesday afternoon.
The Flying Dutch got three of their victories in singles from Adam Snyder, Kyle Gardner and Cody Schaberl. Gardner won his match 10-0, while Snyder and Schaberl won theirs 10-8 and 10-7, respectively.
St. Marys received its fourth victory of the afternoon in doubles, as the pairing of Snyder and Joe Lewis defeated Bradford’s Brett Degolier and Joe Yaros, 8-5. Zach Hart and Dylan Aiello won their doubles match 8-5 for St. Marys’ fifth win.
Alex Barton picked up Bradford’s lone win in singles, defeating Joe Lewis 10-8. The Owl duo of Barton and Jared Lucas picked up a win in doubles, 8-5, over the St. Marys team of Schaberl and Gardner.
After winning their season opener against Brockway last Thursday, the Owls have been at the mercy of the weather over the past week.
“We last played a week ago and we played today without any practice,” Bradford coach Mark Sherman said. “We made a lot of mistakes and St. Marys really capitalized on them. We just have to be ready for our today and see how that goes.”
Bradford is scheduled to play matches in each of the next three days, beginning with Punxsutawney today.
