Stupid groundhog.
“It’s just the winter that won’t end,” said Aaron Tyburski from the National Weather Service.
While being more than a month into spring, winter is still keeping us in its clutches, with another winter weather advisory for today.
The advisory started at around 12 a.m. today, and is expected to last until 4 p.m.
According to Tyburski, the worst of the storm should be between 2 and 6 a.m., which could cause heavy accumulation on the roads.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to road conditions and drive with caution.
This long-lasting strain of winter storms, according to Tyburski, is caused by cold air continuing to move through the Great Lakes and pushing into our area.
Even though we can’t expect spring weather until May, there is a silver lining.
Tyburski stated that from Friday and all through next week, temperatures will start to become more moderate.
Residents can expect temperatures to reach in the lower to mid 50s.
Although this is below average for this time of year, average temperatures being 59 to 60 degrees, this slight temperature increase gives Bradford a hope for spring.
However, we will still see below freezing night temperatures for a while.
“Even though temperatures are seeing an increase, I would still say that it is too early for planting,” said Tyburski. “This cold air and snow is not good for anything trying to grow in spring weather.”
That being said, as far as this weather hindering summer in any way, Tyburski said we should have nothing to worry about.
Although it seems to be taking forever for the warm weather to get here, once it is here, things will progress as always.
The days that we did have higher temperatures didn’t last for a long enough time for things to grow, so nothing has been negatively affected.
So, it looks like Bradford residents are going to have to hang on a little longer before putting away the winter coats and hats.
But, hopefully soon, the sun will be out and the spring weather will be in full bloom.
