An Olean, N.Y., man is in McKean County Jail for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at her Duke Center home.
Zachary Fisher, 23, of 207 S. 13th St., is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree misdemeanor; strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment and criminal mischief, summary offenses.
According to court records, at 2 a.m. Sunday, state police were called to 20 Fitzsimmons St., Duke Center, for a possible domestic dispute. When police arrived at the scene, Amanda Whiteman told police she had been involved in a domestic dispute with Fisher, her boyfriend. She said the two had argued before Fisher pushed her to the floor. She told police she attempted to close herself in the bathroom to separate herself from Fisher, but he forced his way into the bathroom, damaging the mirror in the process, the records allege.
Once inside the bathroom, Fisher put his hands around her throat and choked her, court records allege.
Fisher left the scene before police arrived. A warrant was issued Sunday for his arrest by on-call District Judge Bill Todd.
Fisher was arrested Monday evening and arraigned before Todd. He was committed to jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court April 26.
