A number of bands are set to perform at this year’s Austin Dam Show, scheduled for Aug. 24-26 at the Austin Dam Memorial Park in Potter County.
More than a dozen bands will be on tap for this year’s event, with a theme of “Classic Rock by the Classic Rock” part three. Each group will dedicate a portion of their performance to a recognizable classic rock group.
Headliners are the Scott Pemberton Band, performing several covers originally performed by Jimi Hendrix. The band hails from the Portland, Oregon area, playing in a style known as “Timber Rock.”
The Southern Belles, who have been described as playing a high-octane mix of southern psychedelic rock and roll, will perform tunes made famous by The Band.
Roosevelt Dime, who hail from Brooklyn, New York but boast a New Orleans-influenced sound, will perform selections written by Ray Charles.
Also in the mix will be Mystery Fyre, who have performed at several previous Dam Shows, and will perform songs by the Doors in addition to original tunes. Dustin Douglas and the Electric Gentlemen will honor Stevie Ray Vaughn. Zachademy of Music will emulate Queen. Muscle Tough will perform songs by Fleetwood Mac, and Hungry Ghost will pay homage to the Beatles. Knitebitch will perform Kiss tunes. Damn Decent Fellows will cover Parliament Funkadelic. Easy Tiger will perform songs by Pink Floyd. A.C.’s Soul Machine will honor the Temptations. Edenspore will cover Joni Mitchell’s tunes, and the Clark McLaine Band will cover John Prine. Guitarmageddon will also perform, and there will be several classic rock jukebox sets throughout the weekend.
Bands perform in front of the iconic ruins of the Austin Dam, with lights and special effects projected onto the dam’s face.
Camping is included in the ticket cost. Admission for the whole weekend costs only $50 presale, or $60 at the gate. Reduced admission is available for single-day attendees.
In addition to the wide range of musical acts, there are several hiking trails, a section of Freeman Run winds through the venue and is open for fishing or swimming. Stargazing is also a popular night-time recreational activity at the park. Food and craft vendors will also be on site, and several one-hour interactive learning workshops will be available. More information will be released as scheduling is finalized.
The event takes place in front of the Austin Dam, which is a historic landmark preserved through the volunteer efforts of local residents. The 76-acre Austin Dam Memorial Park is a place of historic significance, and visitors are asked to respect the area and the dam itself.
The park’s rustic campsites do not have electric or water hookups, though there are flush toilets on-site. No glass bottles or containers are permitted on the grounds, and visitors are asked to clean up after themselves.
