ROUTE 6: The PA Route 6 Alliance has declared April as Artisan Month along U.S. Route 6.
The alliance is celebrating the month “by acknowledging some of the unique places with a commemorative poster and postcard. Titled “Now Showing on 6,” the poster encourages visitors to ‘experience the creativity along the PA Route 6 Artisan Trail.’”
Highlighted places include three in our local area: the Bromeley Family Theater and Main Street Movie House, both here in Bradford; and the Austin Dam, host of the annual Austin Dam Show music festival.
Also on the list are the Warner Theater, home of Erie Arts and Culture; the Dietrich Theater & Cultural Center in Tunkhannock, Wyoming County; the Rialto Theater in Canton, Bradford County; and the Canaltown Walk-In Outdoor Cinema, Honesdale, Wayne County.
With some warmer — albeit rainy — weather in store for us over the weekend, it’s a good time to embrace spring and hit the road for day trip to see some of the sites in the area.
The alliance is hosting its annual event May 16 and 17 in Warren with the 2018 theme “The Wheels Are Turning.”
Attendees will get a taste of the work the alliance and its partners do all year.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16, there will be an educational workshop designed for chambers of commerce, economic development groups and businesses: “Wood, Water, Wheels: Strategies for Connecting Outdoor Recreation and Our Communities.”
That afternoon, there will be walking tours of Warren, then a tour and program at Struthers Library Theatre.
The alliance’s annual meeting and “Do 6” Awards will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 17 at the Days Inn. The keynote speaker is Roy Gothie, statewide bicycle and pedestrian coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
