JOHNSONBURG — Johnsonburg put up seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0, five-inning win over Bradford on Friday.
Isabella Galbo drove in four runs for Johnsonburg (1-1), and Lindsey Kocjancic hurled a gem on the mound. The junior pitched a complete game (five innings), allowing just one hit while striking out eight.
The loss sent Bradford to 0-2 on the season, and despite the rough start, head coach Jennifer Snow is choosing to focus on the positives with her team.
“We were a little sluggish coming into the game,” Snow said.” I called time and gave a pep talk to the girls. We bounced back and were holding them a little better and started making plays.”
Snow also noted that the team made some lineup changes on Friday to try and spark the team. Freshman Adrienne Angell started on the mound for the Owls, and freshman Paige Craig got the nod behind the plate.
“I was proud of how they both worked tonight despite it being their first varsity game in these positions,” Snow said.
The Owls are back in action Monday at Kane.
“We will continue to mix things up, but keep in mind that we are young, we are learning, and as long as we keep improving each game I am proud of the girls no matter the score,” she added.
Cameron County 17, Brockway 2, 4 innings
EMPORIUM — Laila Smith and Amily Schatz each belted a home run to lead Cameron County to a four-inning 17-2 victory over Brockway in Northern Allegany softball action on Friday.
Smith’s blast was a two-run shot and also supported her four-hit pitching effort that was good for the win. She also recorded nine strikeouts and gave up no walks.
Backing her was Kaelee Bresslin with a double.
“We jumped out of the gate (quickly) and played hard,” said Cameron County coach Jocelyn Wensel. “It showed in their play today.”
M. Lindemuth and M. Overbeck shared time in the circle and were hurt by 14 walks given up.
The Lady Rovers avoided the shutout with two runs in the top of the fourth.
Cameron (2-1) travels to Northern Potter on Monday.
