PORT ALLEGANY — The Port Allegany boys couldn’t capitalize on a strong start from Howie Stuckey as Kane was able to get some late insurance runs to come away with a 5-0 win on Friday.
Stuckey went six-plus innings for Port A, striking out 12 and walking five.
Jake Alcron knocked a triple at the plate for Kane, while Austin Jordan went six-plus innings on the mound, striking out 11 and walking just two.
“It was close there for a while,” Gators coach Nate Zitnik said. “Howie threw a gem. We’ve gotta stop making mistakes in the field and striking out. But we’re very young. We played three seniors but the rest are sophomores and freshmen.
“Kane had some athletes that came through and made some plays. They put themselves in position to score and capitalized on our mistakes.”
Tyler Lashway went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Gators.
Port Allegany (0-3) will travel to Smethport on Monday.
