DUBOIS — An 11-run third inning from DuBois sent Bradford to a loss in its 2018 season opener, as the Lady Owls fell to the Lady Beaver 15-0 in three innings on Wednesday.
The Lady Beavers (2-1) got RBI from eight different girls en route to the 15-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon that was called after three innings.
“I don’t feel the score reflects how hard we played,” said first-year Bradford head coach Jennifer Snow. “The score was 6-0 after the 2nd. We held them for the first two, the third inning got away from us as DuBois started hitting the ball.”
Sarah Snyder led DuBois with three hits, while Tori Gregory and Lexi Ray each had two-run extra base hits in that third inning.
Bradford (0-1) finally got its season underway after four postponements over the past two weeks. The Owls will return to action Friday against Johnsonburg, and Snow is confident that her girls will bounce back from Wednesday’s result.
“We have a young team and this was only our fourth day this season on the field,” she said.
“We have a few things to work on like communication with each other on the field and working on nerves, but we hustled and we hit the ball. With more practice time, we will continue to improve and I can’t wait to see what the season holds.”
Otto-Eldred 14, Northern Potter 3, five innings
ULYSSES — Alyssa Shelander paced Otto-Eldred (1-0) to a season-opening win over Northern Potter (0-1) with a strong performance on both sides of the diamond.
The senior went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI on the day, while also hurling a quality start on the mound. Shelander struck out four and gave up just one hit to pick up the win.
The Terrors had four triples in the game, including one from Rylee Raught as part of her two-hit, two-RBI game.
O-E will host Portville Today.
