Bradford Township officials warned residents to use caution in work zones this spring, as well as to be wary of scam phone calls, during Monday’s regular meeting.
During the police department report, Supervisor Gayle Bauer said, “We’re still dealing with scam phone calls to residents.”
Police Chief Robb Shipman warned residents to question any phone calls they get from someone who says they want to give a resident money or who says the resident owes them money. If the resident is unsure if a phone call is legitimate, “Call us to verify,” said Shipman.
Bauer also reminded people to watch out for work zones when they are driving.
“Fines are doubled in work zones for a reason,” she noted.
Supervisors handled multiple regular business items.
Robert Burrell was appointed as an alternate member of the zoning hearing board.
Regarding three bids opened Monday for road materials, Paper City Transfer of Johnsonburg submitted the lowest bids on three types of gravel, and IA Construction submitted the lowest bids for asphalt materials. The supervisors voted in favor of awarding the sale to the lowest bidders, pending review of the bids.
The supervisors adopted amendments to the ordinance on Sewage System Rules and Regulations of Bradford Township.
Bauer noted that the purpose of the amendments is to clarify an ordinance that was unclear but does not change the procedure.
“It’s the same thing we’ve been doing,” she said.
They passed a second sewer-related resolution that changed the local limits for commercial and industrial discharges to the sewer collection system under the Bradford Sanitary Authority’s discharge permit.
Bauer said the limit changes were required by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Supervisors also adopted a resolution exonerating Bradford Township tax collector Beth Monti for $1,860 for uncollected and exonerated 2017 per capita taxes. The township will try to collect the unpaid taxes through Berkheimer.
During public participation, resident Kerry Roslinski asked about a sewer line on Wagner Avenue that may have some tree roots in it.
Supervisor Steve Mascho explained that Roslinski wondered if they wanted him to do some work in the area.
Supervisor Chairman Jim Erwin said the resident was waiting to see how the insurance company wanted to handle it.
The next regular meeting of the supervisors will be at 7 p.m. May 14.
