A valve replacement project was among the business introduced at Wednesday’s Bradford City Water Authority meeting on Wednesday.
Executive Director Steve Disney reported that the authority’s engineer, Bankson Engineers, is preparing bid specifications and advertisements for the project. The project will include installation of 12 new gate valves, with focus on areas of the water system in which it has been hard to secure an efficient positive shutdown.
Bids will be opened at 10 a.m. April 23.
Another project, repair of the Marilla Outlet channel, is getting ready to move forward.
Construction contracts are being initiated with Dean Construction of Smethport, which submitted the winning bid of $42,300, according to Disney.
The repair is being made because several gabion baskets in the outlet channel were dislodged during heavy rain.
At the watershed, all gates to authority-owned property remain closed to avoid damage to timber roads, Disney reported. Weather that alternates from cold to warm as the sub base thaws wears on the integrity of roads. The closure, which was made on the recommendation of the authority’s consulting forester, Ken Kane of Generations Forestry, is temporary.
Disney also reported that new electronic cylinder scales, sensors and controls will be delivered this week to the water treatment plant for an upgrade to gaseous chlorination operations. New plumbing that is currently being installed is estimated to be completed in two weeks.
Emergency shutoff equipment is not ready to be shipped.
Disney reported to the authority on the 2017 independent third party audit of the water authority’s records and financial statements. The annual audit was completed by Buffamante, Whipple and Buttafaro P.C. of Orchard Park.
