ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Journalist and Virginia Delegate Danica Roem will visit her alma mater April 5, for a public talk on her journey from Bonaventure to now.
Roam, a 2006 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, will give a presentation at 7 p.m. April 5 in Dresser Auditorium of the John J. Murphy Professional Building. Her visit is sponsored by the Damietta Center for Multicultural Student Affairs on campus.
Roem was elected Nov. 7, 2017, to represent the people of the 13th District of the Virginia House of Delegates, becoming the first out transgender person ever seated in an American state legislature. Her campaign platform focused on transportation, economic development, education and equality.
After earning a degree in journalism/mass communication from St. Bonaventure in 2006, Roem authored more than 2,500 news stories about the greater Prince William County area as the lead reporter of the Gainesville Times from 2006-2015, where her reporting won seven Virginia Press Association awards.
