The 2017-18 All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 boys’ basketball award winners were announced on Tuesday, with a number of representatives from the North Tier making the honor roll.
Coudersport junior Owen Chambers earned D-9 Player of the Year honors after helping the Falcons to back-to-back Class AA titles. Chambers averaged 25.6 points per game including the postseason, with a large portion of those points coming from long-range. Chambers already has 1,439 career points after his junior season.
Joining Chambers on the All-District First Team was teammate and Coudy senior Jared Green. Green averaged 16.3 ppg and 8.0 rpg for the Falcons.
Elsewhere, Bradford sophomore Tyler Gigliotti earned a spot on the Third Team after helping the Owls to a share of the D-9 League title, averaging 14.6 ppg.
Joining Chambers and Green on the First Team are Ian Callen (Clarion-Limestone), Ryan Newton (Elk Catholic), Neil MacDonald (Ridgway), and Nathan Schneider (St. Marys).
Making up the Second Team is Adam Shaffer (Cameron County), Cam Craig (Clarion), Justin Miknis (DuBois CC), Seth Berlin (Forest Area), Nathan Banner (North Clarion), and Brandon Matthews (Punxsutawney).
Joining Gigliotti on the Third Team are Carter Adams (Brockway), Josh Terry (Curwensville), Howie Stuckey (Port Allegany), Daunte Allegretto (Ridgway), and Lucas Bowser (Union).
Chase Beighly of Karns City was named Rookie of the Year after averaging 13.2 ppg for the Class AAA Champion Gremlins.
Austin’s Rich Glover was named D-9 Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to a historic turnaround. Austin posted a winning record and reached the district playoffs for the first time since 2004, improving from 2-20 in 2017 to 13-10 this season.
