EMPORIUM — Charges were filed against a Smethport woman accused of forging a check belonging to a 93-year-old Emporium man.
Emporium-based state police reported that on Feb. 6, Ashley J. Callaway, 31, of 17013 Route 6, Smethport, took the check, wrote the check to herself for $200, forged the man’s signature and cashed it.
Callaway is charged with forgery, a second-degree felony; theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both first-degree misdemeanors, according to court records.
Court records indicate that Callaway has yet to be arraigned on the charges.
