EMPORIUM — An Emporium man was charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief after an attempted break-in on Wednesday.
According to Emporium-based state police, a report of an attempted break-in was received at 5:50 p.m. regarding a residence on 6th Street Extension in Emporium. Upon arrival, troopers found Trystan John Welsh, 21, on the property and caught him in the act of trying to break into the residence, according to police.
Police say they took Welsh into custody without incident. He was found to be under the influence and also to be in possession of a substance suspected to be marijuana. Police say Welsh damaged the rear exterior door on the residence.
Welsh also faces charges of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
