Additional charges were added in a case against a Port Allegany man accused of operating a methamphetamine lab in Bradford City.
Joshua R. Safford, 36, whose last known address was 97 N. Brooklyn Road, appeared Wednesday for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone, who bound all charges against Safford to McKean County Court.
The two additional charges filed against Safford since his Jan. 24 arrest are criminal use of a communication facility, a third-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
He is also charged with a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person and four felony conspiracy counts: operating a meth lab, risking catastrophe, possessing precursors of meth and manufacturing a controlled substance.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 24, a state parole agent was checking on the wellbeing of Corey Robinson, 34, of 246 E. Main St., lower apartment, because he was on state parole. There, the agent found Safford, and there was a “shake and bake” meth lab on the floor in one room.
Prior to Safford’s arrest, police had heard several reports that he was cooking methamphetamine in the area, and he has a previous conviction in New York state for producing meth, according to court records.
Safford remains incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Corey Robinson, who is incarcerated on $100,000 bail for similar charges to Safford, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 28, court records stated.
Also arrested that day was Crystal Robinson, who is charged with conspiracy to possess precursors of meth. She waived a preliminary hearing Feb. 1 and is free on $20,000 unsecured bail.
