THE BIG TIME: Josh Hatcher of Bradford Township is a man of many talents — graphic arts, writing, photography and music.
And now he has more fodder for his resume. His video clip of lightning in a cloud in McKean County made the big time –– a 2019 Jeep Cherokee commercial that is running on national TV.
“We were driving home from Willow Bay in August when a storm rolled in — and the lighting started striking inside the cloud, so I pulled out my cell phone to capture it,” he said. “I’ve never seen a sight quite like it — apparently it was interesting enough to catch the eye of some advertising folks!”

THINGS TO DO: After reading our March 13 column on things to do in Pennsylvania, an Era reader offered some great suggestions on how to learn about a new place you are visiting.
Our reader writes, “Sometimes the obvious is overlooked but holds the most rewards.
1. “A suggested list of activities to pursue when visiting any locale includes visiting the library. Often the libraries reflect the “soul of a community.” Check out the stuff on display, look over the newspapers/magazines, read the bulletin board — offerings can be posted there for further pursuit.
2. “Search out the Houses of Faith; their architecture/cornerstones/sign boards speak of a community’s reverence — past and present.
3. “Building(s) cornerstones/construction dates can tell their own stories.
4. “Pick up the local newspaper. (Do I hear a yes?) It contains the “town’s tempo,” what is important in a community and controversies.
“When people say nothing is occurring somewhere, there may be more happening than one recognizes.”
FALCONS: The peregrine falcons living on the 15th Floor of the Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg now have two eggs, one laid on Tuesday and one on Friday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said the female will likely lay between three and five eggs altogether, typically at one to two day intervals.
