More improvements are closer to being a reality for Bradford’s Second Ward Neighborhood after City Council opened bids Tuesday.
The bids for work planned to start in April came from Bob Cummins Construction with $345,572, M and B Services LLC with $345,371 and Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. with $498,570.
The project along Elm Street and Congress Place includes curbs, sidewalks, street lights, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps, crosswalks and some drainage.
“We will review and make a recommendation at the next (city council) meeting,” said Sara Andrews, executive director for the city’s Office of Economic and Community Development.
Also during the meeting, council authorized the government to execute a change order with Hennard Construction for the 104 Chestnut St. renovation project. Plans call for the building to be turned into a brew-pub.
During the construction, it was discovered that the second floor was in need of replacement because of damaged joists and flooring materials at a cost of $9,000. Funds are being used from the Keystone Communities grant for the work. The contract amount is now $188,625.
In other business, council:
• approved a $4,781 payment to D & D Builders Inc. for the provision of labor and miscellaneous materials to help the OECD construction staff with the installation of window trim, soffit and fascia on a home under construction at 52 Elm St.
• approved a $6,000 payment to Cybergenetics for services related to a police investigation.
• approved a $6,250 first-quarter appropriation to the Bradford Area Public Library.
• approved a payment of $5,000 to Michelle Aaron-Simmons for a facade improvement grant for the Hooker Fulton Building at 125 Main St. The work includes installing new windows.
• approved an additional grant payment of $1,970 to Dorothy Leffler for rehabilitation work at 24 Park St. The initial grant totaled $45,165, and during work, it was determined the deck needed to be reconstructed and gutters needed to be installed on the left side of the home.
• approved a $2,386.02 payment to Gernatt Asphalt Products Inc. from the highway aid fund for cold patching potholes.
