A large slate of Republican candidates for governor and U.S. Senate will appear on the ballot in the May 15 primary election.
The Pennsylvania Department of State recently released candidate information; the last day to circulate and file nomination petitions was Tuesday.
Locally, state Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, will run unopposed in the 67th Legislative District. He is seeking a ninth term in the state House of Representatives.
Would-be Democratic candidate Ron McGonigle did not appear on the state’s list for having filed to run.
On the federal level, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr. will seek the Democrat nod. He was elected to the United States Senate in 2006. On the Republican ticket for U.S. senator are Louis J. Barletta of Luzerne County, James J. Christiana III of Beaver County and Joseph J. Vodvarka of Allegheny County.
Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, is running unopposed for the nomination. He is the 47th governor of Pennsylvania, assuming the position Jan. 20, 2015.
Several individuals are seeking the Republican nomination for governor: Scott R. Wagner of York County, Laura Ellsworth of Allegheny County and Paul Mango of Allegheny County.
Meanwhile, the lieutenant governor’s race is packed for both parties. On the Democratic side is incumbent Michael J. Stack of Philadelphia County facing off against John K. Fetterman of Allegheny County, Craig E. Lehman of Lancaster County, Raymond Sosa of Montgomery County, Kathleen M. Cozzone of Chester County, Nilofer Nina Ahmad of Philadelphia County and Aryanna Berringer of Westmoreland County. On the Republican side are Joseph C. Gale of Montgomery County, Jeffrey A. Bartos of Montgomery County, Marguerite A. Luksik of Cambria County, Diana Irey Vaughan of Washington County and Kathleen Ann Coder of Allegheny County.
Whomever wins each of these contests will compete in the November general election for the position.
