A preliminary hearing for a robbery that allegedly happened Saturday in Benezette is slated for 12:15 p.m. March 13 before District Judge Mark Jacob.
Robert J. Wehner Jr., 49, of Benezette, was arrested Monday and committed to Elk County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.
He’s charged with robbery by threat of immediate serious injury, a first-degree felony; and five counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, all second-degree felonies.
According to Ridgway-based state police, at 10 p.m. Saturday, Wehner tried to take $3,600 worth of items including cash, firearms and other items from 348 Dewey Road, Benezette.
Wehner was allegedly armed with a loaded pistol when he was confronted by the victims, Mark and Liane Moorehead, both 58. A struggle took place, and Wehner was held at the residence until state police arrived, police reported.
Police reported that there are also outstanding warrants against Wehner.
Pennsylvania’s online docket system indicates bench warrants had been issued in two Elk County cases after he failed to appear for revocation hearings. Court records show that he pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in both cases.
