A Bradford man was arraigned overnight for allegations in two separate cases.
Steven A. Devitt, 35, of 23 Pearl St., is charged in one case with strangulation, a second-degree felony, simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary charge; and he’s charged in the second case with theft of leased property, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to court records, at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to 138 East Ave. for a domestic dispute in which Devitt got into an argument with the alleged victim after she yelled at him for yelling at her children.
During the course of the fight, the woman told Devitt to leave, and he called her “worthless,” he threw pizza he was eating at her and she shoved him, and he grabbed both boxes of pizza and started to leave, court records stated.
When Devitt got to the door, he turned and went at the woman, throwing both pizzas at her, shoving her into the counter, grabbing her neck and lifting her off the ground, court records indicated. She had trouble breathing when he allegedly lifted her by her neck, and her children were yelling at him; he released her after several seconds, dropping her.
He then grabbed his stuff and left.
The other case was filed on allegations that on Nov. 4, Devitt entered into a lease agreement with the House of Television for an LG big screen television valued at $907.90; as of Feb. 25, he had not made any payments, according to court records.
Devitt was arraigned before District Judge David Engman and committed to McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 in the assault case; bail was set at $2,500 unsecured in the theft case.
He is scheduled to appear in Central Court in both cases on March 15.
