PORT ALLEGANY –– Port Allegany Borough Council on Monday approved upgrades to the municipality’s water and sewer systems.
During the meeting, officials said that the water system’s regulator valves on certain wells are not working properly. Hydro presented to the borough a price estimate to convert all the chlorine injection system parts to Hydro so annual maintenance could be performed at once.
The sewer systems ejector head and regulator valve are also not working properly, officials said. Hydro presented another estimate to the borough for the purchase and installation of the regulator valve and the ejector head.
Additional piping for safety would also be included in price. The upgrades would cost $1,305 for the water system and $2,200 for the sewer system.
The borough also approved the resurfacing of the water storage tank. Officials said that this will allow a full-tank inspection to be performed once the tank is emptied and the wax removed.
Officials said that this would allow the borough to determine if the existing five-year cycle is necessary for moving forward, or if the resurfacing cycle could be extended. The wax on the interior of the tanks would limit visibility making it difficult to determine if there are corrosion issues or not.
The next borough council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 2.
