Foster Township supervisors heard from a couple of residents during their brief monthly meeting Monday evening.
Lisa Zumstein asked about a current rezoning project on which the supervisors have been working.
Supervisor chairman George Hocker explained that township officials first pulled out the old zoning map a little over a year ago to update it. Since that time, they have been clarifying the boundary lines using whatever resources they can find.
North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission has been helping with the project, and the supervisors have been presenting the updates at their work sessions, said Hocker. He noted they are “putting language in the zones now.”
According to Hocker, the clarified zones will help solve issues such as neighbor disputes over animals. He indicated that animal control will be more clear in the updated zoning laws.
Hocker said he wants input from residents on the zoning project. He offered to bring the map out after the meeting to show Zumstein and invited her to the work sessions.
Work sessions are held at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month, with the next session set for March 15.
He encouraged residents to come forward now to see how zoning changes might affect them, as it will be difficult to make changes once the new map is finalized.
“Right now it’s in the working stage,” said Hocker, who added that once it’s settled, the attorneys will review the proposed map, then it will be posted for public review before it becomes final.
“As of right now, not much of the township has changed other than business districts,” he noted.
Township resident Bill Moore brought up the condition of the roadway in the area of Fourth Street and Derrick Road. He said there are potholes and there is a sluice pipe that is full.
Hocker said, “We can patch up the potholes.”
Road foreman Chad Babcock noted there is a company currently putting new lines in the area, but said some restoration can be done afterward.
Moore finished on a positive note, saying, “I want to thank you for getting us through another winter.”
Supervisors approved two motions during the meeting: one to advertise for sealed bids for upcoming road projects and the other to enter into an agreement for general liability and worker’s compensation insurance.
Regarding a proposed amendment to the emergency ambulance service agreement ordinance, the supervisors voted to table it until the solicitors have finished reviewing it. The agreement is with Bradford City.
Also at the meeting, Hocker noted that township officials met with Verizon representatives last week about the intersection by the Crosby Mart. They are talking about moving the utility poles.
