Emanuel Lutheran Church is once again opening its doors for a free community dinner, this time offering chili to warm its neighbors on a cool Saturday.
Dinner will begin at 4 p.m.
The goal of the dinners, said church council member Rachel Foreman, is “to get in touch with our community and to provide a service.”
She explained that this type of socialization event is “one of our missions we developed a couple of years ago.”
The church has held three dinners so far over the past two years, with this one being the fourth. And each time there have been quite a few attendees from outside the parish. The events average about 60 diners.
The menu includes a hearty meal of chili, cornbread, coleslaw and cake, a perfect meal for a late winter evening.
The National Weather Service in State College is calling for sunny skies and a high near 35 degrees Saturday, and at night the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low of 22 degrees.
Foreman said the church will also hold a drawing of door prizes for attendees. Prizes, which are donated by church members, are often gift baskets or gift certificates from the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce.
She noted that the church, located on Seaward Avenue in Bradford, is handicap accessible. There is a chair lift to help get people into the basement, where the meal will be served.
The event is put on the women of the church, and it often includes music provided by the church organist. She was not sure if the organist would be playing on Saturday.
Organizers usually start cleaning up around 6 p.m.
