Just when Bradford residents got used to what it would feel like for spring to come early, the area got hit with another snowstorm Thursday.
Although those who live here may not really be surprised at all by the sudden change, there is still that familiar dred of having to pull back out winter coats, boots and a snow brush.
For Cindy Pessia, who works at Curves on Main Street, she stated that the sudden change in weather was shocking, but not unexpected.
When asked how she felt about Bradford going from high 60s to 30s within a day, she simply stated, “Yuck.”
Pessia, who had just taken her car to the car wash yesterday, stated that Curves often sees less business when the weather is bad, which is why they loved having the warmer temperatures.
“I love to curl up with a good book when the weather is like this, and just wait for it to be over,” she said.
When will it be over?
According to Craig Evanego from the National Weather Service, even though we may not see temperatures so close to the 70s for a while, we can expect temperatures in the mid 40s and 50s going into next week.
“The sudden increase in temperature was caused by a bridge of high pressure,” said Evanego. “Then, a front moved in, quickly returning temperatures to normal for this time of year.”
Yesterday, the area reached 66 degrees, breaking a new record.
Normal for this time of year is a high of 34 degrees.
Although next week won’t see temperatures in the 60s, Evanego assures residents that even temperatures in the 50s will be above normal for the area.
We may seem some rain next week, but temperatures will remain warmer than usual for February.
When it comes to a sudden decrease or increase in temperature, he stated, “Residents want to keep an eye on the weather, and make sure that they are dressing appropriately for the temperatures outside.”
He urged how important it is to dress according to what it’s doing outside especially when dealing with, “A rollercoaster of temperatures.”
James Imam and Kelly Sturtevant hate this colder weather, and wish we could bring back the 60 degrees we had at the beginning of the week.
Imam was laughing about how crazy the sudden change in temperature was, stating, “We were just walking outside without jackets yesterday.”
When asked how they keep themselves busy through rough winter days, Sturtevant stated that she usually likes to stay inside when she can, and just wait for the weather to warm up.
“I am definitely looking forward to spring,” she said. “I love the warmer weather.”
Amber McAlpine, who works at Main Street Mercantile, stated this weather is crazy, but she kind of expected another snow storm.
“We see a lot less customers when the weather is bad because not only is it harder to get around, but parking on Main Street is also worse.”
She said that rough winter weather really puts a damper on businesses.
McAlpine usually waits to do anything outside until the weather warms up, stating, “I’m a flip flop kinda girl.”
Even though winter hasn’t quite left us yet, fear not Bradfordians, spring will be here eventually … hopefully.
