For the third day in a row, a juvenile is in trouble with authorities for allegedly making threats to Floyd C. Fretz Middle School.
On Wednesday, the City of Bradford Police Department and the Bradford Area School District investigated a video recording posted to social media by a student making threats against staff as well as other students at the middle school.
Once again, the school resource officer and BASD administration were able to quickly identify the juvenile making the threats, read a release from the police. The juvenile was immediately removed from the school grounds.
Interviews were conducted and the threat was verified to have been intentionally made and placed upon social media.
The City of Bradford Police Department and the Bradford Area School District urge that they continue to make any incident involving the safety of students seriously, and will address these incidents appropriately.
This is the fourth incident regarding threats at Fretz in the last three days. Each incident was separate and not related to each other in any way, police said.
All four individuals will be prosecuted accordingly to the fullest extent of the law.
Superintendent Katy Pude sent home a letter to parents on Wednesday to address what has been happening in the district.
“Throughout the past week, the school district has been made aware of social media postings, verbal comments, or other written comments that may be perceived as threats to the well-being of our students,” the letter read. “These postings have been both old and very recent. The administration and our resource officers, along with the local police department, have actively investigated every one of these reports and have acted quickly to ensure that no danger exists to our students.”
She insisted that the entire community needs to work together in order to keep schools a safe place for children. Pude also expressed gratitude for the students who stepped forward this week to report each of the incidents.
Pude stated, “Please take the time to speak with your children about the gravity of this situation, and that there is nothing to make light of in their daily comments. If your children have apps on their devices that sound innocent enough, please take the time to explore them, as many are not.”
