EMPORIUM (EC) — An Emporium man will serve time in jail and must register as a sex offender after being sentenced Tuesday in Cameron County on charges of having inappropriate contact with a minor female.
Peter Paul Romanowski III, 29, of Emporium, entered a guilty plea to felony charges of unlawful contact with a minor—prostitution and criminal use of a communication facility, and was sentenced to serve at least nine months in county jail, and must register on the sexual offenders’ list for the next 25 years.
Romanowski was charged after the victim’s mother contacted police to report that a man had asked her daughter for nude photographs. Through the investigation, it was discovered that Romanowski contacted the girl and offered her varying amounts of money in exchange for her to perform sexual acts and/or provide videos of herself performing them after the girl had made a social media post looking for ways to earn money.
Police also found that Romanowski had sent more than a dozen images of his genitalia to the girl, who related she did not want the photos and did not request them. Romanowski admitted to sending the photos, but stated he did not know the girl’s age at the time. No physical contact was alleged.
Romanowski was sentenced to serve nine to 24 months in a county jail facility, to be followed by three years of probation. Romanowski has been incarcerated since his arrest in July of 2017, and was given credit for time served since that date.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of $500. As special conditions of his sentence, he is prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with the minor victim or her family, and he must participate in the Project Point of Light program and comply with all treatment recommendations.
Due to the nature of Romanowski’s crimes, he must report his information and remain on the sexual offenders’ registry for the next 25 years due to his classification as a Tier II Sexual Offender.
