A Bradford Area High School student has been “dealt with” after allegedly making general threats of violence on social media Thursday — one day after a former student opened fire at a Florida high school, killing 17.
Bradford City Police Chief Chris Lucco confirmed Thursday evening that there was a threat made. “There was a report of some threats made on social media,” he said.
Police immediately made contact with the student and the alleged threat was taken down from a social media site, the chief reported.
Lucco said the high-school age juvenile is “being dealt with through the juvenile court system and through the school process.”
He stressed that police quickly determined “there was no immediate threat or ability to carry out a threat.”
The chief did not release the name of the student, or the content of the alleged message.
“This is difficult for the police department,” he noted. “We’re limited on what we’re able to release because we’re dealing with a juvenile.”
Lucco said only that the threat did not indicate any one person specifically, but was general in nature.
“The student is not currently at the school,” he said, adding that he’s confident the juvenile poses no threat at this point.
Superintendent Katharine Pude did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
Parents of Bradford High students took to social media themselves Thursday, expressing outrage that parents weren’t notified of the threat. Some parents were expressing feelings of nervousness, while others were outraged that the district had not notified them of the incident.
