ULYSSES — The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Potter County will host Snowmobility Weekend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Lumber Museum staff will host a number of special events and movie showings, and open additional opportunities for winter outdoor recreation.
If snow conditions allow, a five-mile snowmobile route will be created from Thompson Road, south of U.S. Route 6 in the Susquehannock State Forest, to the Lumber Museum property. The trail will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday through Sunday. The trail is being made available through a partnership between the Lumber Museum and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
On Saturday, Curt Weinhold will lead a 4.5-mile cross-country skiing excursion, scheduled to set off at 9 a.m. at the District 15 Trailhead at the top of Denton Hill. The trek will include mostly downhill cross-country ski trails and end at the museum. Interested skiers should meet at 8:45 a.m. at the DCNR Bureau of Forestry District 15 Office at 3150 2nd Street in Coudersport.
During the hours the trail is open, a variety of documentary films will be played in the museum, and viewing the movies is free to the public. Among the weekend’s playlist will be “The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), A Peaceful Revolution;” “The Last Raft, a Story of Courage and Tragedy on the Susquehanna;” “Gifford Pinchot’s Conservation Legacy;” “Mira Lloyd Dock: A Beautiful Crusade;” “Straight Talk: The Ralph Abele Story;” “Voices of Pine Creek: An Oral History (Volumes 1 & 2);” and “America’s First Forest: Carl Schenck and the Asheville Experiment.”
All visitors are welcome to warm up in the museum with free hot beverages available during event hours.
From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, an all-you-can-eat pancake brunch will be served. The cost is $8 per person, and includes two sausage patties and a choice of coffee, tea or cocoa. Proceeds benefit the museum and its educational programs.
Standard admission rates will apply for entry into the museum, but there will be no cost to visitors coming in to eat or watch documentaries. Admission rates are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors age 65 and older, and $5 for youth ages 3-11. For more information or to verify snow conditions, contact the PA Lumber Museum at 435-2652.
