ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Board members with the Allegany-Limestone Central School District were still sharing very little information on the superintendent search during Tuesday’s meeting in the middle/high school building.
In his report, board president Joe Zimmer said he and others on the school board couldn’t provide information on the candidates seeking the superintendent job.
“We’re still in the final stages of our superintendent search, and we have no new information at this point in time,” Zimmer said. “We will hopefully have an announcement soon, so stay tuned.” The board had initially stated it expected to have a candidate selected by the end of January.
Following the meeting, Zimmer reiterated that he couldn’t provide any additional information on the search that will replace former superintendent Dr. Karen Geelan who left the district at the end of October.
“I’ll be happy to answer that question (of who is selected) after the search is over,” Zimmer said. “We’re at the end stages … we’re close.”
Zimmer did note that no candidates are being interviewed this week, but they may be interviewed next week.
In his budget committee report, Zimmer said the budget for the 2018-19 school year is shaping up well for the school district.
“There’s some very good news that we’re planning for and there will be no reductions in programs,” Zimmer said. “We’ll be bringing some students in special education back to the district, and will have the ability to buy four buses and four vans this year.”
In his report on the capital project that will provide $16.1 million in upgrades in the school district, interim Superintendent Mark Ward said copies of the architectural drawings for the planned work are expected to be received by the district this week.
“We’ll really go through them with a red pencil and make sure everything is where we want it,” Ward said of the renderings. “I think we’ve got our arms around the project pretty good.”
He said it is hoped the plans can be sent back to the New York State Education Department by the end of February for their review, which is expected to take another nine months.
In personnel matters, the board agreed to an appointment that would return Jonathan Luce to his former teaching position, effective Jan. 19. Luce had previously held an administrative position in the district.
“He decided he wanted to go back into teaching special education and keep his (athletic director) job, which he has done before,” Ward said on behalf of Luce, who was not at the meeting.
In business action items, the board agreed to terminate the contract between the Olean Family YMCA and the school district for the services of a personal trainer in the weight room.
