ALLEGANY, N.Y. — A board member with the Allegany-Limestone Central School District reported this week that the search for a new superintendent is ongoing and may be concluded within the next week or two.
Board president Dr. Joe Zimmer said this week that the search for a superintendent to replace Dr. Karen Geelan, who left at the end of October to accept a superintendent post elsewhere, was nearly completed.
Interim Superintendent Mark Ward was hired prior to Geelan’s departure and has been heading up the district the past several months until a replacement is found.
“We are in the final stages of the search and should have more information to share soon, within a week or two at the outside,” Zimmer said this week. He noted no additional information, such as how many finalists are being considered or a salary range, could not be shared until the search is finalized.
Zimmer has stated previously that the board not sharing information on the search “guarantees confidentiality of the people involved” and keeps the integrity of the process.
Earlier in January, Zimmer was able to share that the board had narrowed its search down to a handful of candidates and had expected to select a new superintendent by the end of January. He had also stated it was a close search and the board was using two search consultants to aid the process.
The board is expected to go into an executive session at Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. meeting to discuss the ongoing search.
Other matters that will be discussed or reviewed at the upcoming meeting at the middle/high school on Five Mile Road will include a discussion on the ongoing $16.1 million capital project that will upgrade and provide additional safety features at both campuses.
There will also be reviews of club policies, as well as the first reading for a revised policy for drug and alcohol testing for school bus drivers and other safety-sensitive employees, among others.
In addition, there will be a recommendation by the superintendent to terminate the contract between the Olean Family YMCA and the school district for the services of a personal trainer for the weight room.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the meeting.
