SMETHPORT — A Mount Jewett woman was found guilty Wednesday by a jury in a forgery and theft case in McKean County Court before President Judge John Pavlock.
Amber N. Leschner, 28, had been charged with two counts each of forgery, both second-degree felonies, and theft by deception, both second-degree misdemeanors.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer said Leschner was convicted after a one-day trial.
Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade prosecuted the case on the behalf of the District Attorney’s Office; the defendant was represented by Assistant Public Defender Stephanie Smith.
According to court records filed at the time of Leschner’s arrest, once in June and once in July, she wrote out checks to herself from an employer’s account. She was accused of forging her employer’s name and cashing the checks at a Kane credit union for a total amount of $160.
Leschner will be sentenced March 8, court records stated. She is free on unsecured bail, court records indicate.
