A 58-year-old Bradford Township man has been charged with allegedly firing a gun toward a neighbor’s South Avenue home in December.
Richard Yovichin II, of 662 South Ave., is charged with recklessly endangering another person and propulsion of missiles into a roadway, second-degree misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, between 12:20 and 12:35 p.m. Dec. 20, Bradford Township police were called to the area of 660 South Ave. on a report of gunshots near a residence. Police were met by a witness who said Yovichin was observed shooting a what appeared to be a rifle from his driveway toward residences and property directly across the road, U.S. Route 219.
The witness reported that after firing, Yovichin bent over and picked items up from the ground, the complaint read. The officer noted the items were apparently spent shell casings.
Security camera footage from the area was reviewed and showed Yovichin walking down his driveway carrying a long gun. He pointed the gun toward Route 219 and toward houses across the street.
“Yovichin appears to be shooting the gun at this time,” the complaint stated.
Police noted the date and time of the video footage coincides with a 911 call made by a second neighbor, who reported hearing shots coming from a gun in Yovichin’s possession, the complaint stated.
Yovichin was arraigned Monday before District Judge Rich Luther and released on $5,000 unsecured bail. He was also ordered to have no contact with his neighbors, to not harass anyone and to refrain from handling firearms outside of his house. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 before Luther.
Court records indicate he is represented by Ridgway attorney John Thomas.
