Dillon and Colby Keane both earned first-place finishes for Bradford High at the Mercer Tournament this weekend.
Both Keanes went 5-0 at their respective classes (145 pounds for Dillon, 152 for Colby) to take home medals.
Dillon defeated Slippery Rock’s Mike Doerflinger with a 9-1 major decision.
“Dillon winning that final match… really made a statement as far as the rankings go,” Owls coach Jamie Miller said. “Dillon is undefeated so far this year, so he’s looking to continue that. That final match was hard-fought, every point that he earned. He completely dominated.”
Colby Keane won his final match by a 6-4 decision.
“Colby’s quarterfinals match against Meadville’s Nick Rinella (the number one seed) really set the tone for the rest of the tournament,” Miller said. “It was another hard-fought match, and it sememd to spur how he wrestled the rest of the way. The final match had both kids getting after it hard. It was non-stop action.”
As a team, Bradford finished ninth out of 23 teams that competed. Tyler Thompson (132 pounds, 3-2) finished fourth, Derek Sunafrank (160, 3-3) finished sixth, and Nate Gehm (285, 3-3) finished eighth.
“We would’ve liked to do better as a team,” Miller said. “A couple little mistakes cost us.”
Also competing for Bradford were Drake Hayden (2-2), Kyle Hartman (1-2), Austin McCracken (1-2), and Hunter Gray (1-2).
Coudersport also competed at the tournament, with Dustin Kudrick (138 pounds) and Julian Smith (160) both finishing in first in their respective classes. Also earning medals for Coudy were Eli Ayers (third at 182), Cale Ayers (third at 195), David Kudrick (fifth at 145), and Isaac Wright (fifth at 170).
