SHINGLEHOUSE — At 6 p.m. Feb. 13, Potter County historian David Castano will present a program, at the Oswayo Valley Library, on the New York and Pennsylvania Railroad.
The railroad, affectionately called the “NYP”, was a 57-mile shortline railroad that spanned the border region from Ceres to Canisteo from 1895 to 1935. The origins and heart of the NYP was the Oswayo Valley. Unlike many shortlines of that era that only served coal or lumber interests, the NYP freighted a wide variety of goods and products in and out of its rail line.
Hear about the heroics of such brave engineers as Carl Flohr and Fred Kemp. Learn the true story of the NYP’s wreck with an airplane, and a trolley car war fought in the streets of Shinglehouse.
Stop by or call the library at 814-697-6691 to register.
This program is free and open to the public.
