RIDGWAY –– Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital after a fire destroyed a home in Ridgway Township on Thursday.
Ridgway-based state police say that three firefighters and one paramedic suffered minor injuries at the scene of a fire at 4236 Grant Road at a two-story, wood-frame residential home. Ridgway Fire Department Chief Scott Pontious reported that the unidentified occupants of the house –– two adults and two children –– had already been in an ambulance when the fire department arrived on scene.
About 20 firefighters were called out to the fire at about 1:50 a.m. Thursday, and arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, Pontious said. Firefighters returned to the station around 5:30 a.m.
The state police fire marshal and Ridgway Fire Department investigated the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
The injured emergency responders are listed as Chad Ecklund, 57; Tammy Ecklund, 48; and Brandon Ecklund, 27, all of Ridgway, and were transported to UPMC Mercy for burn injuries. Meanwhile, emergency responder Patrick Ecklund, 24, of Ridgway, was transported to Penn Highland Elk and released. Pontious said he did not know the names of the home’s occupants.
A damage estimate is not available, police said, though Pontious estimates the house to be valued between $100,000 to $150,000.
Ridgway Borough Police assisted the state police at the scene.
