MOUNT JEWETT — The Kinzua Bridge State Park has a series of events planned in the near future.
A snowshoe loaner program is ongoing, where visitors can check out snowshoes Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for hikes through the park. Park staff will give brief instructions. A Pennsylvania driver’s license is necessary.
Beginning at noon on Saturday, a tree identification hike will be held along the General Kane Hiking Trail. The hike is approximately 1.5 miles, and is an easy to moderate walk in the woods. The trail is in the “open hunting” area, so participants are asked to wear orange hats and vests.
Wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. Participants should meet in the visitor center lobby. Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided after the walk.
And for romantics looking to do something different for Valentine’s Day, the park will be open for walks out onto the Kinzua Bridge to see the sunset. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided afterward. Dress according to the weather. Meet in the Visitor Center classroom, west end of the building at 5:30 p.m.
