The Bradford High swim team lost its dual-meet to DuBois on Thursday by the scores of 117-52 (girls) and 117-35 (boys), respectively.
But despite what the final team score might indicate, head coach Chelsea Schwab was extremely pleased with her team’s performance.
“It was a good meet for our boys and girls despite the score,” Schwab said. “We’ve been dropping times since the end of last season… and it really shows who’s been putting in the effort at practice. We’re really happy with the progress. DuBois is a tough team. Going into it we knew we were going to be here for times.”
With the Beavers sweeping the relays, Bradford was able to earn a few individual first-place finishes. Karl Gangloff and Emma Webster each earned a pair of victories, with Gangloff winning the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, and Webster claiming wins in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
Mackenzie Lucas also earned a victory in the 100 freestyle.
“Mackenzie is a freshman, and we knew she was going to be an asset to the team, but she keeps impressing us every race,” Schwab said.
“Abby Szoke (who swam in four events) has been dropping tons of time left and right when she’s in the pool,” Schwab added. “It’s impressive to watch.”
Schwab is also seeing some good things from some of her newer swimmers.
“For the boys, a couple of our new swimmers are really breaking out,” she said. “This was the first time Spencer Whittemore and Hugh Kennedy were in their own individual races and we got some really good times out of them, so they’re going to be really important moving forward.
“We’re setting ourselves up for a good postseason.”
