COUDERSPORT — Three events will be held this month and next to offer opportunities to learn more about weed, insect and other pest management.
A Potter County crops and planting clinic will be held Jan. 26. Registration will open at 8 a.m. and will be taken by the Potter County Conservation District. The meeting will be held at the Tri-Town Firehall in Ulysses. Entrance is $15 per person and includes lunch.
Kimberly Bohn, Penn State Extension forestry educator from McKean County will speak on controlling woody invasive plants including multiflora rose and honeysuckle. Rob Meinen, Penn State Extension Senior Associate will also speak on Manure and Nutrient usage and cycling in field and forage crops.

A McKean County farmers meeting will be held Feb. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial in Port Allegany. This meeting will offer the same presentation by Kimberly Bohn, Penn State Extension forestry educator, in conjunction with other topics. This meeting is sponsored with lunch at no cost by the McKean County Conservation District. Call to register at the District, 814-887-4001.
A new offering, the Potter County evening update, will be held Feb. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Penn State Extension office in Coudersport. The meeting will connect farmers at Extension Offices from all over Western Pennsylvania. The topics will include “Top Ten Weeds of Pennsylvania” for field and forage crop growers including tough to battle weeds like Marestail. This meeting has a $10 fee. Walk-ins are welcome, but advanced registration is available online at extension.psu.edu or by phone at 877-345-0691. If calling ahead, or registering online be prepared to pay by credit or debit card. Cash and check will be accepted at the door. Arrive prior to 7 p.m. to register.
All meetings will offer two category and two core continuing education credits for pesticide applicators pending PDA approval. All others welcome. Potter Crops and Planting will offer Nutrient Management and Manure Hauler Credits. Need not be an applicator to join.
