WINTER TIME: Bradford poet Donald Neal shared some good winter advice with our readers — in rhyme.
“Winter Time in Bradford”
Once again winter has come,
To this sleepy little town.
With snow and ice all over the roads,
The people will not slow down.
They rush around from place to place,
Not thinking of the danger ahead.
They think it is still summer,
So they spend that extra ten minutes in bed.
All of a sudden they realize,
They need to clean the snow off their car.
And let that heater go to work,
Although they don’t have to go very far.
They don’t have time for coffee or breakfast,
So off to the mini mart they go,
On the bank they notice the temperature sign,
The temperature is ten below.
They make it safely to the mini mart,
Everything is going just fine.
Now because there are others just like them,
They have to stand in line.
When they reach their workplace,
A timecard they must punch.
And because they were so late getting up,
There wasn’t time to pack a lunch.
They see their co-worker isn’t there today,
To the hospital he has been sent.
He also wouldn’t slow down,
And caused an accident.
So slow down and drive safely,
And I am not being sarcastic.
If you still persist with speed,
You will soon become a statistic.
I have a saying I often use,
I still use to this date.
I would rather be an hour and a half early,
Than to be five minutes late.
Speaking of Bradford winter — and the bitter cold temperatures we’ve experienced this week — a wind chill warning issued by the National Weather Service continues until 6 p.m. today.
The warning covers several counties including Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter. Stay inside if you can.
